Position Title: Vice President, Strategic Communications

Position Description:
The Vice President of Strategic Communications is a senior leadership role responsible for strategic direction, client leadership, and business development at eo&co. This position serves as a primary strategist and trusted advisor to clients, oversees execution of high-quality communications work, and plays a central role in shaping the firm’s growth, systems, and culture. The Vice President operates with a high degree of autonomy and is accountable for both strategic outcomes and day-to-day delivery. Work in the progressive movement often includes rapid-response; as such, this role is expected to be available during working hours and for rapid response turnarounds as needed.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Lead comprehensive communications strategies for multiple high-impact clients and initiatives, translating goals into clear narratives, message frameworks, and integrated campaign plans.
Serve as a senior strategic advisor to clients, providing counsel on narrative change, earned media strategy, brand positioning, and moment-based response within the progressive movement ecosystem.
Partner closely with the Founder and Principal to shape firm-wide strategy, priorities, and long-term growth.
Collaborate with the Vice President of Digital to ensure alignment between narrative strategy, media, and digital execution.
Establish and uphold standards for excellence, rigor, and impact across all client deliverables.
Anticipate political, cultural, and media trends to proactively position clients and the firm.
Strategic Communications
Write, edit, and oversee high-quality strategic communications materials, including op-eds, press releases, talking points, messaging guides, narrative frameworks, toolkits, and rapid-response statements.
Lead communications planning for campaigns, mobilizations, and issue-based initiatives across earned media, digital, and integrated channels.
Guide rapid-response strategy and execution during breaking news moments, ensuring speed, accuracy, and message discipline.
Ensure all communications are values-aligned, audience-centered, and grounded in movement strategy.
Team Leadership and Management
Manage and mentor contractors and consultants of the strategic communications team, setting clear expectations, priorities, and workflows.
Provide editorial direction, strategic feedback, and performance support to ensure strong outcomes and professional growth.
Coordinate staffing plans across client accounts to ensure capacity, efficiency, and quality control.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and supportive team culture aligned with EO&Co.’s values.
Client Leadership and Management
Serve as the primary point of contact and strategic lead for assigned client accounts, building trusted, long-term relationships.
Develop, manage, and update scopes of work, timelines, and deliverables in partnership with clients and internal teams.
Oversee day-to-day client workflows from strategy through execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and at a high standard.
Provide proactive issue management, flagging risks and opportunities early and offering clear recommendations.
Prepare and present detailed client updates and reports that track progress, impact, and next steps.
Business DevelopmentIdentify, assess, and pursue new business opportunities aligned with EO&Co.’s mission and strategic focus.
Support relationship-building with prospective clients, partners, and funders.
Lead or contribute to the development of pitch decks, proposals, scopes of work, and pricing strategies.
Provide strategic insight during new business conversations, helping articulate EO&Co.’s value proposition and competitive edge.
Support onboarding, transition planning, and early-stage strategy for new clients following contract execution.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate brings 8-12 years of experience in communications strategy, client management, and progressive advocacy or related fields. They demonstrate strong writing and editorial skills, strategic judgment, comfort with both high-level planning and hands-on execution, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. Experience leading client relationships, developing scopes of work, and contributing to business development is essential, as is the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with colleagues.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 25% travel may be required.
Salary and Benefits:
This role is compensated at a flat monthly rate of $15,000 with full-time capacity expected. This is a contract position, not an employee role, and does not include employee benefits such as health insurance or retirement contributions. This role is currently set to start February 2, 2026 through December 31, 2026 with a possibility to renew in January 2027.
