Position Title: Communications Strategist

Position Description:
The Communications Strategist supports eo&co’s communications work across earned media, digital, narrative development, and rapid response across clients. This position works closely with the broader team to help translate strategy into strong, coordinated execution across platforms.
This role is designed for a mid-level communicator who is eager to build experience across traditional and digital communications. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, a sharp strategic thinker, and an adaptable executor, comfortable drafting materials, gathering and analyzing media clips, supporting and creating digital content, and contributing to rapid-response moments in fast-moving political and cultural environments.
Core Responsibilities:
The Communications Strategist will be responsible for a mix of strategic planning, execution, and collaboration, including but not limited to:
Support the development and execution of integrated communications strategies across earned media, digital, and narrative work.
Draft, edit, and adapt a wide range of communications materials, including talking points, press and media materials, messaging documents, narrative summaries, toolkits, briefing memos, and digital copy for social media, email, websites, and text programs.
Monitor news cycles, media coverage, and public discourse to identify emerging risks, opportunities, and moments for engagement.
Track, organize, and synthesize media coverage across national, local, and digital outlets; gather clips and assess narrative impact, message pickup, and emerging trends.
Support the preparation of media reports, clip summaries, and performance snapshots for internal and client use.
Collaborate with strategic communications and digital teammates to support development of content calendars, toolkits, and other outreach materials.
Help create or adapt simple graphics and short-form content using tools such as Canva for both print and digital distribution.
Support rapid-response communications during breaking news moments across media and digital channels.
Assist with message alignment and coordination across teams, clients, and coalition partners.
Track action items, approvals, and timelines to ensure timely execution.
Participate in client, coalition, and internal meetings; take notes, manage follow-ups, and support execution of next steps.
Required Experience
2–5 years of experience in communications, digital strategy, advocacy, political campaigns, media, or a related field.
Experience or strong interest in progressive advocacy, movement-building, and/or electoral communications.
Strong writing and editing skills across multiple formats and platforms.
Familiarity with social media management and monitoring.
Experience monitoring media coverage and synthesizing insights into clear takeaways.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Comfort working in fast-paced, rapid-response environments.
Ability to take direction while proactively contributing ideas and solutions.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Fluency in English; Spanish-language proficiency is a plus.
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience working in integrated communications environments that blend earned media, digital, and narrative strategy.
Familiarity with social media management tools, email platforms or advocacy tools (e.g., Action Network, EveryAction), and CMS platforms.
Experience supporting coalition-based or multi-partner campaigns.
Basic experience with digital analytics or performance reporting.
Ability to translate strategic direction into clear, actionable communications materials.
Commitment to progressive values, equity, and social justice.
Travel Requirements:
There may be travel required, but no more than 2 trips per quarter.
Salary and Benefits:
This role is compensated at a flat monthly rate of $8,000 with full-time capacity expected. This is a contract position, not an employee role, and does not include employee benefits such as health insurance or retirement contributions. This role is currently set to start February 2, 2026 through December 31, 2026 with a possibility to renew in January 2027.
